Module 00

Foundations of the framework

The epistemic principles and the absolute discipline that structure ORC-I.

First axiom

Living systems do not solve. They displace, convert, temporise, hybridise.

Second axiom

The observer is in the loop. Every measurement modifies the object.

The four layers — absolute discipline

Absolute rule: never mix the layers. ORC-I stays strictly within layers 1 to 3. The anti-ideology module prevents any slide into layer 4.

Layer Content
1 — Observations Traces that can be filmed and recorded, raw data. Constraints described neutrally.
2 — Patterns Identifiable dynamic invariants. Competing, non-exclusive motifs, with no verdict.
3 — Hypotheses Refutable, with indicator, threshold, horizon and condition of falsification. Expected traces.
4 — Narrative Meaning, intention, morality, teleology. External to the diagnosis. FORBIDDEN in ORC-I.

Anti-ideology module: Any cosmic intention, any teleology, any inevitable progress, any strong metaphysics, any human projection not labelled as layer 4 are made invisible and forbidden within the diagnosis.

Module 01

Organisation

Stabilising attention, making observation transmissible, avoiding the illusions of narrative bias.

What teaching leaves out

Contents, laws and methods are taught. Far less so:

Training the gaze
Seeing without immediately imposing an explanation.
An ecology of scales
Micro, meso, macro, short time and long time.
Regime dynamics
Transitions, thresholds, irreversibilities.
Weak signals
What changes before "it shows" in the indicators.
Epistemic humility
What we do not know, what we cannot settle.

Module B — The observer in the loop

Mandatory questions to ask oneself:

What my framework renders invisible.

What I overvalue because it is measurable.

The narrative I want to see win.

How my observation modifies the mètis.

Rule: double discomfort is mandatory.

Module 02

Pressure

A present structural constraint that prevents or limits a simple stabilisation.

Output parameters

Nature
Type of constraint: material, relational, informational, normative.
Intensity
Degree of constraint exerted on the system.
Scale
Local, regional, global, multi-level.
Temporality
One-off, cyclical, permanent, growing.
Fragmentation
Distributed or concentrated, uniform or heterogeneous.
Direction
What the pressure pushes towards, or prevents.

Traps to avoid: Confusing a rule with an applied pressure. Confusing intention with effect.

Module 03

Affordances

The exploitable margins of a system under pressure. Gradients, instabilities, flows, interactions.

Families of affordances

Material
Physical, energetic and spatial resources available or mobilisable.
Relational
Ties, networks, alliances and dependencies that can be exploited.
Legal
Normative loopholes, grey zones, regulatory interstices.
Symbolic
Narratives, legitimacies and values that can be mobilised or contested.
Architectural
Structures, channels and interfaces that allow circulation.

Completeness test

For each diagnosis, check three levels:

Visible — Explicit and acknowledged affordances.

Plausible invisible — Affordances that are undocumented but consistent with the context.

Brokers and grey zones — Intermediaries, go-betweens, spaces of functional ambiguity.

Mètis

Observable emergent workarounds. No intention required.

Module 05

Resilience

Displacement of cost and stabilisation. Locating where the bill goes, identifying the new attractor.

Displacement of cost — axes of analysis

Temporal
Deferral to the future, accumulated debt, mortgaging of possibilities.
Spatial
Geographical externalisation, transfer to peripheries.
Social
Shifting onto vulnerable groups, rendering the losers invisible.
Structural
Weakening of the architecture, technical debt, rigidification.
Symbolic
Loss of meaning, erosion of legitimacy, cognitive dissonance.
Security
Vulnerabilities created, breaking points displaced.

Hard-core criterion: Which cost is absolutely refused? That is where the system's real hierarchy of priorities is revealed.

Stabilisation — markers

Repetition
The pattern reproduces itself predictably.
Institutionalisation
Rules, norms and structures formalise it.
Selection
Alternatives are eliminated or marginalised.
Standardisation
Variations decrease, formats converge.
Lock-in
Going back becomes costly or impossible.

Critical test: Reversibility versus regime transition. Can the system still change trajectory?

Module 06

Coherence

Living indices, vitals to protect, and a diagnosis of systemic viability.

Living indices — three markers of vitality

Tactical diversity
Does the system produce varied responses to pressures?
Speed of learning
Does it integrate new information quickly?
Adaptive opacity
Does it make itself harder to read by external pressures?

Operator: A joint rise of all three = an adaptive living system. A joint fall = a system in decoherence.

Module A — Vitals

Define the protected vital functions (1 to 3 at most). For each vital:

An observable and measurable indicator.

An identified breaking threshold.

A relevant temporal horizon.

Tolerable adversity before degradation.

Test: A mètis is alive if it protects at least one vital.

Protocol of use — 8 steps (90 seconds)

Write 5 observations (layer 1).

Write 2 patterns (layer 2).

Write 2 hypotheses (layer 3) with falsification.

Fill in Pressure, Affordances, Mètis, Displacement of cost, Stabilisation.

Choose 1 to 3 vitals. Check whether the mètis protects them.

Note the three living indices.

Do the Observer module and write the double discomfort.

If needed, write a narrative — but outside the diagnosis.
